What are the advantages of VoIP gateways?
Many people have been told that, in order to have VoIP, they have to throw out their existing telephone switch and replace it with an expensive VoIP PBX. Not only is that not true, it also is a terrible option for most businesses because it creates a situation in which entire company needs to be re-trained just to make a phone call.
One alternative to the "throw out everything" approach is upgrading their existing PBX to VoIP using the PBX manufacturer's VoIP offering. This is definitely better than the first option because it tends to be less disruptive to the business. It does, however, also tend to be a fairly expensive and require major upgrades to the PBX. Add to this the fact that, even if they are using industry standard protocols, most of the, PBX upgrade options will not work with switches from other manufacturers or even with smaller systems from the same manufacturer.
Our solutions attach to the PBX or Key System the in the same manner as traditional CO equipment. We have units that connect as CO Trunks, Single Line Stations, and PRI. Since the switch does not know that it is doing VoIP, the only thing that might need to be added to the switch would be a CO Trunk Card, a Single Line Phone Card, or a PRI card depending on which units you planned on using. Likewise, the system can be configured in such a way that the users making telephone calls may not know whether the call was using VoIP or not. They pick up the same phone, dial the same number, talk to the same person on the other side. Our solution can be used between phone systems from different manufacturers and between PBX and Key Systems. Our solution is also a lot less expensive than either of the other two options.
